Raising Awareness through Our National Conferences

Women in Daawah (WID) has been fully engaged in raising awareness and rendering support and assistance to internally displaced persons (IDPs) since the beginning of their displacement from their states of origin by the terrible insurgency. Our four conferences from 2012 – 2015 have focused on highlighting the precarious situation of our societies arising from the terrorist insurgency and attempting to find and proffer solutions in charting a way forward.

  1. Mobilizing and Disbursing Funds and Essential Supplies to IDP Camps and Settlements in the FCT, Borno, Yobe Adamawa, Gombe, Katsina & Zamfara states.

Within the past 6-7 years, WID has mobilized substantial resources and disbursed same to various IDP locations within FCT and through our local chapters in the North-east/Northwest. Between 2013 and 2015 we mobilized and disbursed over twelve Million Naira (12,000,000) in the following manner:

  • cash transfers to state chapters
  • transporting foodstuff, clothing, medical supplies to state chapters
  • educational supplies, school furniture and tutorial classes
  • Children (IDP) school enrollment into public schools
  • Establishment of primary school classes within IDP Camps
  • Empowerment and skill acquisition.
  • We have continued to channel food and clothing support to victims of violent strife and insurgency in the North-East and now Zamfara, Katsina, Sokoto & Nasarawa States. Our last consignment was on May 2, 2019 to Keana and Zamfara.
  1. WID is concentrating on imparting necessary employment generation skills that will empower these displaced persons in preparation for their resettlement and reintegration back to their communities. Within FCT we have established tutorial classes for secondary school students, primary school classes, Islamiyya classes and have implemented training in different trades for men and women twice at three IDP camps. We empower trainees who excel after the training with necessary items and supplies that will start off their trades.
  2. WID is working in a collaboration with three other groups in the FCT to implement a scholarship program for orphans and vulnerable children in Yola, Maiduguri and FCT. 380 children are being supported with tuition fees, books and other learning support.
